Police Investigate Bomb Threat at El Cerrito High

A bomb threat at El Cerrito High School Wednesday afternoon prompted school officials to evacuate students, teachers and staff from the campus.

At about 12:45 p.m., El Cerrito police announced that there was police activity near the campus and asked people to stay clear of the scene.

Shortly after that, West Contra Costa County Unified School District officials reported via Twitter that the school was the target of an "online" bomb threat and that the campus was to be evacuated and searched.

District officials are asking parents to stay away from the high school at 540 Ashbury Ave., but said students could be picked up from the Harding Elementary School campus at 7230 Fairmount Ave. after 1:15 p.m.

Police reported the incident cleared at 2:30 p.m.
