Two people are dead in San Rafael after a man shot his wife and himself Tuesday morning, police said.
San Rafael police responded to the scene at the 700 block of Penny Royal Lane where 73-year-old James Leonard Bearham, who called police, said he had just shot his wife Laurel Doreen Bentley-Bearham, 91, and was intending to shoot himself, according to police.
Officers establish perimeter and a crisis negotiation team was called to assist, police said, but negotiators were not able to establish communication with anyone inside the home.
Officials then used a robot to gain entrance to the residence where two people were found dead and a firearm was located.
Police ordered shelter-in-place in the area of Las Paposas, Pine and Penny Royal but the order was later lifted.
Police said the situation is an ongoing investigation and no other information was immediately available.
