A person died Wednesday evening from gunfire he suffered on an Interstate 580 onramp near the Oakland Zoo, California Highway Patrol officials said Thursday.
The shooting occurred at 5 p.m. on the 98th Avenue onramp to westbound Interstate 580 in Oakland and shut down the westbound side of the freeway for hours.
The victim drove for a while after he was shot and died near the MacArthur Boulevard offramp from westbound Interstate 580, according to the CHP.
The freeway was closed until about 8:30 p.m. as the CHP investigated, CHP officials said.
