Man, Dog Shot Dead at Vallejo Pawn Shop

A second man was shot and has been hospitalized with major injuries, according to police.

A man and dog were gunned down while another man suffered serious injuries in a shooting at a Vallejo pawn shop on Tuesday, police said.

Police said that a possible robbery was reported on the 2500 block of Springs Road, near Rollingwood Drive, around 3:10 p.m. At least one of two suspects was described as carrying a handgun, and police said that both were said to be wearing hooded sweatshirts.

By the time officers arrived at Pawn Advantage, however, the suspects had fled, and police only found two men with gunshot wounds. One was taken to a hospital with severe injuries while the second did not survive his wounds, police said.

Officers also discovered that a dog inside the shop was shot and killed.

Police provided few details, but people familiar with the business say surveillance cameras inside the building will be key when it comes to identifying the gunmen.

"There’s nothing in there that’s valuable, more valuable than someone’s life," said Chris Adams, who owns three pawn shops in the Bay Area and he knows the owner of Pawn Advantage.

Police have so far not provided information about a motive or suspects. The victims will not be identified until their family members have been notified about the shooting.

Adams believes the shop owner was the man killed in the shooting. He said the man uses a wheelchair, and the dog belongs to him.

Adams said safety is a big concern in the pawnshop business. A lot of shops allow customers in only through a buzzer, but at Pawn Advantage, people are free to walk in, he said.

Adams is now rethinking how he will run his businesses.

"Maybe I will be changing that today," he said. "I have kids and stuff, and this is scary."
