Police Investigate Hit-And-Run Accident in San Francisco

A major San Francisco thoroughfare in San Francisco has reopened after being shut down following an alleged hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning.

At 12:45 a.m., San Francisco police officers responded to a call of a vehicle collision in the intersection of Geary Street and Van Ness Avenue, police said.

According to preliminary information from police, the suspect vehicle was driving west on Geary. As it approached Van Ness Avenue, it collided into a vehicle traveling on Van Ness, police said.

Police said that the impact of the collision caused the victim vehicle to roll over, which then collided into a traffic polce. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene but was apprehended by police.

According to police, four females and two males were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses told NBC Bay Area that a smaller car hit a van or SUV which then rolled over several times. They described it as actually “flying in the air.”

Witnesses also said they saw police chase the people who ran from the scene of the collision.

The circumstances of the collision are under investigation, police said.
