Salinas Officials Investigate 28th Homicide of the Year

A 53-year-old man was fatally shot early Monday morning in Salinas, marking the city's 28th homicide this year, according to police.

Police responded to a building at 13 E. Lake St., after someone called to report that a person had been shot, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim in a stairwell. Medical personal pronounced him dead at the scene, according to police.

No witnesses have come forward and police are continuing to investigate.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Officers had been called just a few hours earlier, around 10 p.m. on Sunday night, regarding shots heard near Lake and Bridge streets, police said.

Once there, officers located spent shell casings but were unable to find witnesses, according to police.

Police, however, do not believe the two incidents are related.
