The San Francisco medical examiner's office is looking into the identity of a male body found in the water near Pier 39 Tuesday morning, police said.
At 10:12 a.m., officers received a call about a possible body in the water near the tourist-heavy Pier 39 area.
A police boat crew was able to pull the body from the water and determined it was that of a male. Medics declared him dead at the scene, according to police.
In addition to identifying him, the medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine how he died, police said.
