Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in San Jose

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in San Jose, police said late Thursday.

At 6:34 p.m., officers were sent to the 6100 block of Monterey Road for a welfare check. The involved suspect was located in the area of Monterey Road, near Southlake Drive.

Police said the shooting occurred while an officer made contact with the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound.

No officers were injured, according to police.

The incident appears to be the second shooting reported Thursday night in San Jose.

At 6:38 p.m., NBC Bay Area's Damian Trujillo reported the Alum Rock School District offices were evacuated due to a shooting in the neighborhood. The district is located at 2930 Gay Ave., just off North Capitol Avenue.

San Jose has had nine officer-involved shootings this year, five of which were fatal.

No other information was immediately available.
