Police Investigating Suspicious Death of Robbery Suspect in San Jose

A man died after he and two other suspects allegedly robbed someone of a scooter in San Jose early Tuesday morning, and police are considering the case a suspicious death.

Officers responded at 3:47 a.m. to a report of a robbery in the 1100 block of Story Road. The victim said three suspects stole his scooter, police said.

Arriving officers were directed to one of the suspects, who was found lying on the ground. Officers handcuffed him, then realized he was unresponsive. Emergency personnel took him to a hospital, where he died a short time later, according to police.

Police did not say what happened to the other two robbery suspects.

The death of the man, whose name is not yet being released, is being investigated by the Police Department's homicide unit and Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

The case is also being monitored by the Police Department's internal affairs unit, the city attorney's office, and the Office of the Independent Police Auditor.
