Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested After Pursuit Ends in Crash on I-80 in Fairfield

After a pursuit late Wednesday morning, Vallejo police arrested a San Francisco man who was allegedly wanted for an armed robbery.

Officers saw a Chevrolet Prizm without license plates traveling erratically around 11 a.m. in a parking lot on Plaza Drive in the Gateway Plaza shopping center, Lt. Herman Robinson said.

The driver, identified as Jahrell Johnson, 18, of San Francisco, sped away from a traffic stop onto eastbound Interstate Highway 80, traveling at speeds reaching 100 mph, Robinson said.

Johnson lost control of the Chevrolet about a half-mile west of the Red Top Road exit. The Chevrolet became disabled when Johnson crashed through a fence and drove across a frontage road, Robinson said.

Johnson hid in an area with a creek, bushes and trees, but a police dog located him and he was taken into custody, Robinson said.

Officers determined Johnson was on probation in San Mateo County for possessing a burglary tool and driving without a license, Robinson said.

Johnson also is believed to be the suspect in an armed robbery of a laptop in a Starbucks in Vallejo on Dec. 9. He was booked in the Solano County jail on suspicion of evading police, violating probation and strong-armed robbery.
