Possible Hate Crime: Man Stabbed With Screwdriver in Palo Alto Parking Garage

Palo Alto police are looking into a possible hate crime after a group of white men accosted a Hispanic man, made racial comments and then stabbed him with a screwdriver inside a downtown parking garage, authorities said.

Police said the man was walking alone Wednesday night on the first floor of City Parking Garage “S,” 445 Bryant St., when he was approached by three men who made “disparaging remarks about his ethnicity.”

After a brief verbal exchange, one of the men stabbed the victim with a screwdriver, according to a Palo Alto Police Department release issued Friday.

All three suspects fled on foot, police said.

The victim was treated at a nearby hospital with a puncture wound described as “moderate.”

Police on Friday released sketches of two of the suspects.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Palo Alto police.
