Presidio Garage Sale Tomorrow

Items from a century of military occupation in San Francisco include plenty of oddities

When Nancy Pelosi crafted the plan to get the Presidio to pay for itself as a park by essentially privatizing public property, she hopefully didn't intend for the Presidio Trust to have to raise money through garage sales.

But that's basically what's happening tomorrow -- housewares and oddities salvaged from the Presidio over the decades will be on sale this weekend.

It promises to be the weirdest selection of army surplus ever, and expect to have fight your way past interior directors, home stagers and buyers for the vintage furniture stores on Valencia.

If you'd rather stay at home, you can still place bids on items like cars signed by Arnold Schwarzenegger on eBay and Craigslist as part of the Great California Auction.

And don't be surprised if the public school system ends up for sale in the junk bin sooner rather than later.

Jackson West is glad Schwarzenegger didn't devalue the Presidio's inventory with a signature.
