A prisoner broke a second-story window Tuesday in downtown Stockton and nearly escaped before he was captured by police at the last second, authorities said.
Police said Vincent Torres, 24, was in an interrogation room at the Essential Services Building at North Center Street and East Weber Avenue.
Detectives had been questioned Torres, but they left the room and Torres was able to break a window. Torres nearly hopped out the window, which sits about 15 feet off the sidewalk below, but detectives returned and kept him from making the leap, police said.
Torres was arrested earlier on Tuesday in a Stockton courtroom on an outstanding warrant for alleged carjacking and robbery.
