Wanted Man Drives Into Car, Fence in Pittsburg While Fleeing From Sheriff's Deputies

A suspect fleeing from Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday slammed into a car and then a fence in Pittsburg before being arrested, officials said.

A man, who had a warrant out for his arrest, was spotted driving a car in Bay Point, deputies said. They tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect sped up and drove away.

Deputies chased the suspect vehicle until he crashed into another vehicle and a fence near the intersection of West Leland Road and Covington Drive around 2 p.m., officials said.

The suspect jumped out of the car and tried to run away, but was nabbed a few yards away, according to deputies, who also found a stolen firearm in his car.

The driver of the car into whom the suspect crashed complained of pain and was taken to a hospital. The suspect, too, was taken to a hospital, as is the sheriff's office policy.
