Rainy Races Cause Tour of California Move

Raining races force a change in course

The Amgen Tour of California is moving from February to May next year, cycling site VeloNews.com reported.

In the last two years of the tour, cyclists have raced through nasty winter weather, including strong winds and chilly rain.

VeloNews.com reported that the Tour of California, the biggest stage race in the United States, would conflict with the Giro d'Italia, the world’s second-biggest race.

But the move to a mid-May race also means that cyclists could pass through the Sierras, possibly near Lake Tahoe. The warmer weather could also draw bigger crowds.

Next year's Tour of California is scheduled for May 16-23.
