A former San Jose prep school teacher previously jailed for molesting a student was reconvicted Thursday after police say he violated
parole by privately tutoring teenagers.
Probation officers in January reported that 39-year-old Andrew Chen, a registered sex offender, grossly violated terms of his probation by
independently tutoring several students from Mission San Jose High School and The Harker School, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Chen, who had in 2008 been convicted of molesting a 16-year-old girl where he worked as a teacher at The Harker School, was granted probation after six months in the Santa Clara County Jail under orders to have no contact with anyone under 18 years old, according to police.
Chen on Thursday was convicted of violating probation terms by tutoring students from the area high schools at their homes located in the
Fremont and San Jose areas, according to police. He was again sentenced to six months in county jail.
