An off-duty Richmond police officer has been placed on administrative leave after he was involved in a shooting and standoff at a hotel in San Francisco Sunday morning, according to police.
The incident started around 4:55 a.m. when police responded to a report of shots being fired inside at the Four Seasons Hotel along the 700 block of Market Street, San Francisco police spokesman Robert Rueca said.
The male officer at the center of the standoff initially refused to give himself up to police, but he eventually surrendered without incident and was taken into custody around 6:30 a.m., according to Rueca.
A gun was recovered at the scene, Rueca said. Winesses reported hearing about six or seven shots on the 17th floor of the hotel. It is not clear why the officer fired his weapon.
There were no reports of any injuries, and investigators are still determining the amount of property damage, according to Rueca.
"We're very fortunate that no one was injured in this incident, that it was peacefully resolved," Rueca said.
When the officer initially refused to surrender, a shelter-in-place order was issued, police said.
