Ride of a Lifetime for Boy Who Loves Trolleys

Make-A-Wish Foundation makes dream come true for a fan of Bay Area public transportation history

Henry Mulvey probably has strong feelings about the National City Lines conspiracy that destroyed street car lines across the country to sell more buses, cars and oil.

That's because the young boy, who suffers from a debilitating disease, has a passion for streetcars -- especially the vintage varieties that parade down San Francisco's Market Street and Embarcadero.

Mulvey, of Conway, Massachusetts was in town thanks to the support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants terminally ill children a dying wish.

Mulvey's dream? To ride as many of the classic cars on the F-Market line as he could.

For good measure, he added a cable car ride and a ride on a cherry San Jose historical trolley, bringing the boy's total collection of rides to near 100 he estimates.

The video of Mulvey touring California in streetcar style is an uplifter -- and a heartbreaker.

So yeah, break out the kleenex before hitting play. Photo by Dawn Endico.

Jackson West is a little verklempt, as Henry's a kid after his own heart.
