Rohnert Park Man Crashes Car Into Public Safety Vehicle at End of Chase

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety arrested a driver on suspicion of possessing heroin and reckless driving after he crashed his vehicle into a public safety vehicle Wednesday.

Peter Sullivan, 38, of Rohnert Park, was speeding in a Toyota and crossing double yellow lines on Roberts Lake Road around 6:30 p.m., Deputy Chief Aaron Johnson said.

An officer pursued Sullivan who continued speeding and ran a red light at Golf Course Drive before pulling into a gas station parking lot on Redwood Drive to go around stopped traffic, Johnson said.

The Toyota allegedly almost hit a patrol car at an unrelated traffic stop. And that officer joined the pursuit that led to the Home Depot parking lot, Johnson said.

Sullivan lost control of the Toyota, struck a concrete light pole and allegedly continued driving into a handicapped parking stall near the front of the Home Depot. Sullivan then collided with one of the patrol cars, Johnson said.

Officers removed Sullivan from the disabled Toyota and he was arrested and booked in the Sonoma County jail on suspicion of reckless driving, evading a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance believed to be heroin and drug paraphernalia, according to Johnson.

Sullivan did not appear to be under the influence of narcotics or alcohol during the pursuit, Johnson said.
