Sam Wo Restaurant, on Washington Street, is now closed after several meetings with public health investigators.

"My mom use to send my dad here two three o'clock in the morning because she had a hankering for tomato beef chow mien," according to Sean Black.

Sam Wo opened it's doors about 100 years ago. The new owners have been in business here for about 60 years.

The restaurant was propelled to fame by waiter Edsel Ford Fung, who was immortalized in “Tales of the City” novels.

Fung famously insulted customers and criticized their menu choices.

Fung died in 1984.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the health department says it found several violations in March, including “rodent activity” and improper food storage.

The San Francisco health department wants the owners to bring the building up to code or close.

Julie Ho, the owner's daughter says health officials have never given them such a tough time when it comes to building codes.

One woman drove all the way from San Diego to eat at the restaurant one more time.

Meanwhile, there may be last-minute hope for Sam Wo.

The owners of the restaurant have a meeting next Tuesday. Maybe, just maybe something can be worked out.
