San Bruno Reaches Settlement Over Gas Pipeline Explosion Documents

The San Francisco Bay Area city that was the site of a deadly 2010 gas line explosion says it has settled a lawsuit against state regulators over documents and emails related to the blast.

San Bruno officials said they received about 7,000 documents from the California Public Utilities Commission on Friday as part of the settlement. They sought documents that they believed could show evidence of improper meddling by the commission in the process to decide fines against Pacific Gas & Electric Co. for the explosion.

The PUC said it had intended to release the documents before the city sued. Under the settlement, the city will drop the lawsuit and the commission will additionally provide easier access to public records.

A city spokesman said attorneys were reviewing the documents.
