San Francisco Hearts Tony Bennett

This is the golden anniversary for the song I left my heart in San Francisco.

Love was in the air today in San Francisco as hundreds of people belted out Tony Bennett's famous "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."

San Francisco City Hall held a politically star-studded event to honor both Bennett and the song that has been an anthem here in the Bay Area for more than 50 years.

Bennett didn't sing himself during the City Hall event. He left that to a choir made up of dozens of talented children from across San Francisco.

Valentine's Day 2012 was the day the city marked the 50th anniversary of the song's debut. Although the song wasn't recorded until 1962, Bennett first sang 'I Left My Heart'  in late 1961 at the Fairmont Hotel's Venetian Room.

While the main event was at City Hall, sing-alongs were also held at Union Square and Hallidie Plaza at noon. There were also other casual impromptu gatherings across the Bay Area that included anyone in the mood to have a little lunch-time fun.

Mr. Bennett is the headlining act Valentine's night in that same venue where he first sang the song more than 50 years ago. The concert is sold out. It's a fund raiser for heart research at UCSF.

Here is the sound check for the concert in case you are not among the lucky ones who has a ticket.
