San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is launching the Upper Market Street Safety Project on Thursday to make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The new push will improve safety on one of San Franciscoโs most dangerous traffic corridors between Octavia and Castro streets.
From 2007 to 2012, there were 27 collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians, 32 vehicle-bicycle collisions and 102 vehicle-vehicle collisions, according to SFMTA.
New safety measures will include bolder crosswalks, painted safety zones, and more no-right-on-red restrictions for drivers.
