San Francisco Olympic Fencer Honored in Hometown

Olympic medalist, San Francisco native and Stanford University graduate Alexander Massialas is being honored Sunday in the city by the bay for leading Team USA fencing to its third best Olympic performance ever during the Summer Games.

Massialas, along with two other medalists, are scheduled to demonstrate the art of their sport to spectators along Pier 39 Sunday afternoon before enjoying a recognition ceremony later Sunday evening at the Massialas Foundation, a commemoration that will congratulate the Americans for their Rio medal haul, according to a USA Fencing press release.

Other famed fencing champions and Olympians, including Katarzyna Trzopek from Redwood City, will also be taking over Pier 39 signing autographs for fans, according to a press release.

As a team, the Americans collected four medals in Rio fencing, highlighted by Massialas, who captured silver and bronze hardware, according to a press release.
