Woman Missing With Baby Was Romantically Linked to Target of FBI Raid: Sources

San Francisco police are seeking the public’s help in locating a woman β€” and her baby β€” who sources say was allegedly romantically linked to a man who was beaten by police in an alley last year and arrested in an FBI raid Friday.

Police say Dana Rinta and her 17-month-old daughter, Scarlett, were last seen March 14. Officers sought the woman's help in connection with a prior domestic violence incident in which Stanislav Petrov is the primary suspect, sources say.

The mother and daughter were reported missing April 1, but police did not specify by whom.

Rinta is a 23-year-old woman who is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds and has long brown hair and green eyes, police said. Scarlett has blonde hair and green eyes, they said.

Petrov is a suspected car thief who was severely beaten by Alameda County sheriff's deputies. The November incident triggered an investigation into police use of force.

Sources said Friday's raid is tied to a federal gun investigation involving Petrov. The 29-year-old was slapped with federal weapons charges and remains in custody as of Saturday.

FBI spokesperson Prentice Danner confirmed a home on Teddy Street in Visitacion Valley was raided around 3 p.m.

"This is a joint operation with San Francisco Police Department and the FBI," Danner said.

Agents, armed with search and arrest warrants, were looking for "more than one person" and have made some detentions, according to Danner.

Friday's raid came after an overnight shooting, after which sources said Petrov drove a shooting victim to a hospital. Federal officials, however, were preparing documents related to the raid prior to the shooting, they said.

The raid stunned neighbors.

"I don't know what to think," neighbor Rose Mil said. "But I have a hunch it was something pretty major β€” guns or drugs, I figured."

Anyone with information about the missing pair is asked to contact San Francisco Police Department anonymously at (415) 575-4444 or text TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
