NBC Universal, Inc.

Seven people suffered minor injuries after two Muni light-rail trains collided on Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

Two trains collided near Brannan Street and The Embarcadero, Muni officials wrote on Twitter at 1:43 p.m.

Fire crews also arrived on the scene to assist with medical care.  A San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson said five people were transported to area hospitals, while the others were reportedly in stable condition.

The San Francisco Fire Department cleared the scene shortly after 3 p.m.

The circumstances leading up to the collision are under investigation.

SF Muni initially reduced service on inbound T and N trains to switch back at Embarcadero, and outbound T train to turn around at 4th and Channel streets. Lines resumed to regular service as of 4:19 p.m.

Transportation officials said riders can still expect residual delays.

The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management said motorists can still expect increased traffic in the area, and should consider alternate routes.

Anyone with more information on the collision is encouraged to contact the police department at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
