San Jose Doesn't Let Water Get in the Way of Its Ferry Building

City reveals plan for new market

San Jose knows it doesn't have bay front property. But that is not stopping the heart of the Silicon Valley from building its own Ferry Building.

The famed San Francisco waterfront market is all the rage with Oakland and the Wine Country working on building their own. Now San Francisco wants in on the act.

The first detailed plan for what some are calling"San Jose's version of the Ferry Building" were revealed this week.

But one thing the 18,000-square-foot market near San Pedro Square won't have is "$6 truffles or caviar."

The market will however rip a page from the San Francisco Ferry Building's playbook is a coffee shop with a cult following as one of its anchor tenants. Barefoot  Coffee Roasters has already signed on to open a store in the market.

The market is scheduled to open sans caviar on Aug. 1.
