Ann Curry Finds SJ Woman in Earthquake Zone

San Jose woman missing in Japan found alive.

Canon Purdy flew to Japan just a day before the massive tsunami and earthquake hit. Her family had not heard from her and spent three long days and nights trying to find out any information they could. It all came down to a lucky Tweet.

Sunday night, they finally found out Purdy was alive and well, thanks to the Today Show's Ann Curry.

After Curry arrived in Japan to cover the earthquake and tsunami, she got a tweet from Megan Walsh in San Jose who said she was looking for her sister. Curry tweeted back and the two were able to exchange a photo of the missing woman.

To the amazement of just about everyone Curry found the missing woman and two other American teachers at a refugee center Curry visited on assignment for NBC.

Curry then let Purdy use her phone to call her frantic family in the South Bay. “I’m totally OK,” she told her sister.
