A San Jose police officer shot and wounded a suspect who had refused to drop a knife and started to advance toward her outside a home in North San Jose Friday afternoon, a police spokesman said.
The unidentified wounded man was taken to a hospital for treatment of at least one bullet wound, police spokesman Officer Albert Morales said.
Police received a call at 3:23 p.m. about an argument between two men in their mid-30s, one of whom had a weapon, in the 1800 block of Cape Horn Drive near Mabury and North King roads, police said.
When officers got to the scene outside a home on Cape Horn Drive they saw the two men arguing and one was holding a knife, Morales said.
One of the officers pulled out a non-lethal projectile-shooting weapon and the other officer asked the armed suspect to drop the knife, Morales said.
The man with the knife refused to comply with the officer's request and started to advance toward her and, fearing for her life, the officer used her firearm to shoot the man at least once, Morales said.
Police do not know the condition of the wounded suspect, Morales said.

The two men, who had been arguing before police arrived, knew each other and lived in the area where the shooting happened, Morales said.
Both officers who were present at the time have been placed on administrative leave, under Police Department protocol for officer-involved shootings, and will be interviewed about incident, Morales said.
