San Jose Police Arrest Son in Palo Alto After Father Killed on New Year's Day

Less than a week after a 54-year-old man was killed on New Year's Day in San Jose, police arrested his son Thursday evening in Palo Alto.

In a brief news release, San Jose police said officers arrested 30-year-old Maxim Zhukov, in his father's disappearance, and ultimate death. Police did not release any more information about the arrest.

Family members reported 54-year-old Evgeniy Zhukov missing just before 9 p.m. on New Year's Day.

Then on Jan. 4, San Jose police investigators got a tip implicating his son with the disappearance.

Police in Richmond then found the father dead his car, though they didn't exactly say when and where.

Investigators believe the crime scene may have been the elder Zhukov's residence in the 6600 block of Neptune Court, in San Jose.

Why and how the case traveled from San Jose to Richmond to Palo Alto has not been explained. A possible motive also has not been released.

The elder Zhukov was San Jose's first homicide of 2016.
