The City of San Jose and the San Jose Police Officers Association on Friday agreed to replace the divisive pension reform measure, Measure B, with a new package of benefits.
The new agreement also opened the door for police rank and file to start voting on a new pay offer, a vote the union threatened to cancel if the city did not agree to replace Measure B.
Both sides said the deals will help restore the understaffed police force.
Officers will be voting through the weekend. If ratified, the deals will go before the city council on Tuesday for final approval.
