Hundreds of volunteers flocked to San Jose Sunday to put together care packages for members of the military serving overseas.
Operation Care and Comfort was founded 14 years ago, when troops were first sent being sent to Afghanistan and Iraq.
Today, the organization still operates out of a South Bay home belonging to one of the co-founders. But it has grown.
Every three months or so, the group calls upon the community to help create and send care packages.
One volunteer knows firsthand how much the packages mean.
"It meant the world, to get a care package from home, from someone I didn’t know," said Frank Keffer, Operation Care and Comfort’s vice president. "It got me through 13 months of hell. It’s like Christmas."
In addition to the packages, organization members offer support to local military families and work to get troops tickets to sporting events and concerts.
