Sand Sculpting Contest in San Francisco

Headless horsemen coming out of pumpkins. A giant skull with a human crouching inside. A smart car with the latest technology. These images are odd enough. But imagine them sculpted out of sand?

Artists and carvers from across the globe are creating masterpieces out of the world's finest rock as part of "Carve San Francisco," the first international sand sculpting competition in the Bay Area.

The event runs through Sunday, and will be highlighted with food, yoga classes and an awards ceremony for the winners.

It's free and located near the Sports Basement at the Presidio. Keep in mind, parking will be extremely limited.
