Santa Clara County Ordinance Tackles Graffiti

A new Santa Clara County ordinance aims to battle graffiti.

The ordinance calls for homeowners and business owners in the county to remove graffiti on their property within 48 hours.

"I'm not sure how I feel about it for homeowners," Santa Clara County-resident Bruce Olstad said. "Sounds like it would be a good idea for businesses."

Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese said he heard from people who live near the Burbank Theatre, which has been a magnet for taggers.

Property owners now have consequences if they don't paint over tagging.

"What's going to happen is a code enforcement officer is going to come out and basically write them a ticket so on the 10th day penalties are going to start," Cortese said.
