Santa Clara University Identifies Students Allegedly Responsible for Drawing Swastika on LGBT Poster

Santa Clara University officials said this week that they have identified students responsible for vandalism at a student housing building, including some apparently drawn with their blood in an elevator.

In a letter to the university community on Wednesday, vice provost for student life Jeanne Rosenberger said investigators identified the students who may be responsible for the vandalism early Saturday at the Casa Italiana building, which also included inflammatory writing on a bulletin board.

The students' names were not immediately released.

"Following the investigation, there will be a university conduct hearing to determine the appropriate sanctions for anyone found responsible for violating the Student Conduct Code," Rosenberger wrote.

The university is also investigating how surveillance video from the elevator related to the case was released online, Rosenberger wrote. The video shows two males appearing to smear blood on a wall in the elevator and drawing a swastika on a poster promoting the LGBT community.

The university is holding a forum on Tuesday to discuss the incident and other recent events on campus. The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Mayer Theatre.

The university is also investigating an incident involving a tribute to student protesters in Mexico who mysteriously disappeared two years ago.

Video of the incident show male and female students on campus knocking down wooden silhouttes honoring the group, known as the Ayotzinapa 43.

The group is 43 student teachers who disappeared in Mexico during a protest of alleged government corruption.

Some people are also seen in the video picking up and replacing the statues after they were kicked down.

Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call Campus Safety Services at 408-554-4441. People wishing to make an anonymous tip can also visit ethicspoint.com.
