Scammers Target OPD Fund Donors

"It's a scam."

The Oakland Police Department is alerting residents of a scam in  which a caller claims to represent the Oakland Police Officer's Association and asks for money to benefit the families of the four officers killed March  21.

Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said Monday night there have been at least two reports of a caller attempting to solicit money to  benefit families of the fallen officers.

"It's a scam," Thomason said, adding that the Oakland Police Department and Oakland Police Officer's Association do not make phone calls  to solicit money.

Anyone who receives such a phone call is ask to call Oakland  police at 510-777-3333.
