An admitted wrong-way driver will be sentenced Wednesday for plowing into a young baseball fan in San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood.
Andrew Vargas, 22, is expected to be sentenced to five years’ probation and one year in county jail. He will also have to take DUI classes and perform 100 hours of community service.
The plea deal will count as a strike under California’s ‘Three Strikes’ law.
Vargas was driving the wrong way on a one-way street when he slammed into 9-year-old Ryan White, at the intersection of Mission and New Montgomery streets.
White and his family were in town from Philadelphia to watch the Phillies take on the Giants at AT&T Park last August.
The family had been walking back to a nearby hotel at the time of the accident.
White has already been through three operations and is expected to have at least one more.
