In a city that's renowned for its Victorian houses with pastel facades and large Bay windows, it's slightly surprising that there's a castle smack dab in the middle of the City by the Bay. The sinister looking castle, named Albion Castle as it was once the site of Albion Brewery, is on the market for $975,000. The reduced price tag reflects the tumultuous decline of the listing since it first hit the market way back in September 2009 with a $2.95 million ask. View the listing.

From the imposing front door to the dark and creepy underground hot springs, this fixer upper castle seems like it's come straight out of a vampire movie, or at least, it would make a great haunted house for this year's Halloween.

The castle, located in Hunter's Point, was once the site of Albion Brewery. Built above India Basin in 1870, Albion Ale and Porter Brewery was founded by John Hamlin Burnell who took advantage of the abundance of fresh water in the underground springs that runs beneath the property to make his product.

The home measures 1,436 square feet and includes a main house, along with a separate studio off the main structure.

Remnants of the Albion dynasty remain throughout the spread. This main house was where the fermenting kettle and malt mills were once located.

Years after Albion Brewery closed up shop, the Mountain Spring Water Co. purchased the rights to the natural springs that run beneath the property. According to the listing, the sale may include the water rights to the natural springs.

Hunters Point neighborhood is located in the southeastern area of San Francisco. The median sale price for all homes in this neighborhood is $210,000, well below the median sale price of all San Francisco residences.

While the castle is full of rich San Francisco history, it sure needs a ton of renovations and repair.

The stone castle (which looks like it should be located in England, not in Hunters Point) is designed in the Norman style.

The property includes tunnels and numerous underground caves and passageways that were used to access the natural springs underneath the sinister castle.

The natural springs are clearly still abundant, which begs the question: what will the potential new owner do with the plethora of natural springs, not to mention, the dilapidated dark castle?
