Police Investigating Fatal Shooting at The EndUp Nightclub in San Francisco

San Francisco police are investigating a deadly shooting at a SoMa district nightclub.

Police Chief Toney Chaplin on Monday said his homicide team is looking into connections between Sunday's shooting at The EndUp club and another fatal shooting at the club from this past summer.

Police said a fight inside the club spilled out on the street, leaving a Stockton man shot dead and two others wounded.

Meanwhile, two suspets from another shooting at the club were released Friday. The June 5 shooting took the life of a 19-year-old San Francisco man.

Prosecutors said the two suspects had gang ties.

"That case did have gang overtones," Chaplin said.

Both suspects were released because surveillance video from the club showed the victim was shot with his own gun -- a gun he brought into the club, cocked and stuck in his waistband.

"We became aware that perhaps this was a case of self defense," District Attorney George Gascon said.

Gascon said his office dropped the charges during Friday's preliminary hearing.

Chris Santana, who lives a few blocks down the street from the club, describes The EndUp as a popular spot with some problems.

"A lot of drugs going around, alcohol and a lot of DUIs," Santana said.
