A highway in Cupertino was re-opened about two hours after it was shut down as authorities were looking for evidence after a reported shooting.
California Highway Patrol Officer D.J. Sarabia said officers closed down southbound Highway 85 between Stevens Creek and De Anza boulevards about 1 p.m. It reopened just before 3 p.m.
The closure was because a Marine recruiter who were driving at the time heard a loud bang and the glass of his window shattered, Sarabia said. No one was injured.
The CHP and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department are now looking for any evidence of such shooting. During the highway closure more than a dozen officers walked in a long line down the southbound lanes as they searched for evidence.
Investigators said based on how the glass shattered, it appears that the windows were blown out by a bullet, adding the two back windows were shattered.
Authorities said that there was no connected between the reported shooting on the highway, and the temporary lockdown of a Cupertino preschool because police were looking for three residential burglary suspects.
Late Wednesday there was no suspect or vehicle description. Police said it was unknown if the shot or shots came from another car or somewhere off the freeway.

They are asking witnesses to call the sheriff's office. Anyone who was traveling on southbound Highway 85 in the area and during the time of the incident, and who may have information on the case is being asked to please contact Sheriff’s Investigators at (408) 808-4500. Investigators also said because the vehicle was unmarked, there is no indication that the passengers were targeted because they are Marines.
