A San Jose bomb squad responded to the city's Willow Glen neighborhood Tuesday morning on reports of a suspicious device at the home of Councilwoman Dev Davis, according to police.
The device was found at the home, police said, and bomb squad personnel loaded the device onto a trailer at the scene. It was not immediately clear if Davis was home at the time of the discovery.
The scene was cleared just after 11 a.m., police said.
Police determined the device was an explosive but said there was no threat to the public. No suspects have been identified, according to police.

“I was really concerned because it was right there in front of our house, and I had to just grab all of my stuff and my dog and get the heck out of here,” said Darren Nosseck of San Jose.
The neighbor said he was working when police knocked on his door to evacuate him.
“I got the chills because I was really concerned, what would have happened if [police] weren’t there?” said Nosseck.

Police are trying to determine if the councilwoman was the target or if someone left it there randomly.
"This morning, we were made aware that a neighbor found a suspicious device near our home. The police were notified and the bomb unit responded. Our family was evacuated from our house and so were nearby neighbors. I have to say that I'm seriously disturbed by the fact that someone would threaten harm to me and my family just because I'm an elected official," said Davis in a statement. "This further erodes our democracy and our ability to attract good people to run for public office. We are fully cooperating with the investigation and our hope is to catch the perpetrator. We are very grateful to SJPD for their diligence. We are also very grateful to our neighbors for their understanding and support.“
