SJ Teacher Sentenced in Molestation Case

A former physical education teacher at San Jose's Mt. Pleasant High School was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail for molesting a 17-year-old female student.

Rita Brum, 24, was also sentenced to three years of formal probation, meaning she must meet regularly with a probation officer,  according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

San Jose police began investigating Brum in January after receiving a call alleging that she had molested a student. A subsequent  investigation uncovered an inappropriate sexual relationship that took place  over several months between Brum and a 17-year-old girl.

Brum was arrested Feb. 26 and charged with sexual penetration of a person younger than 18.
