San Jose police released new details on the city's latest homicide. They identified Marquis Reynolds, 37, as the man suspected of stabbing a homeless woman with some kind of Samurai sword Monday night at 6:30 p.m. across the street from the mid-town Safeway on West San Carlos.
The still unidentified woman was suffering from at least one stab wound when police arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
And although they have a person under arrest, police have not yet determined the motive for stabbing.
Investigators said detectives developed information regarding the suspect's identity in the hours after the stabbing.
"Special Operations Canine Unit personnel responded to assist in the apprehension of the suspect. Canine officers located the suspect in the 2000 block of Beatrice Court and took him into custody without incident," police said.
Reynolds was booked into jail for homicide.
People in the area said the victim was a homeless woman who frequented the area. She used a walker to get around.
Although police confirmed a person had been arrested in connection with the crime they would not comment on a motive or give a name of the suspect.
The homicide was the second of the day Monday. Just before 1:40 p.m., a Hispanic man in his mid-30s was found suffering from a fatal gunshot wound in a parked Chevrolet Impala on Charles Street just west of Oakland Road.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
No arrests have been made in that case.
The deaths mark the 25th and 26th homicides in San Jose this year, police said.
