Less than one week after a shimmering layer of powder blanketed peaks across the Bay Area, snow once again coated the higher elevations across the region early Sunday.
White and fluffy snowflakes piled up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, on Mt. Tamalpais in the North Bay, across the East Bay hills and on peaks sitting east of San Jose, including Mt. Hamilton, which picked up 5.5 inches of fresh snowfall, according to the National Weather Service.
Daniel Avram of Danville wasn't able to make the trip to snow-capped Mt. Diablo last week because he was stuck in school and didn't have a ride, so when he saw snow return to the mountain Sunday morning, he made sure to pay a visit.
"I think it's really cool," he said. "I could get used to the snow being up here. It's nice."
The dusting of snow atop the East Bay peak didn't make for any Tahoe-like sledding runs, but Brian Avram found ways to make the most out of what Mother Nature provided.
"It's still fun," he said. "We get to have a little bit of a ride on our sleds here."
The weather service issued a winter weather advisory through 10 a.m. Sunday for hills and mountains above 1,500 feet across the Bay Area.

Locations above 1,500 feet in the North Bay mountains, Santa Cruz Mountains and East Bay hills were predicted to welcome anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of fresh snowfall, according to the weather service. Spots soaring above 2,000 feet were slated to pick up more than 4 inches of powder.
The weather service warned that the snow could make for treacherous driving conditions on a host of roadways that snake through the region's hills and mountains, including Highway 17, Highway 9 and Highway 35 in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Highway 29 in the North Bay and Highway 130 leading to and from Mt. Hamilton.
