Sonoma County Woman Arrested for Possessing Check Stolen From Evacuated Area

A Sonoma County woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of possessing a check that was stolen from a Geyserville home that was evacuated during the Kincade Fire, a Sonoma County sheriff's sergeant said Tuesday.

A sheriff's deputy responded around 8 a.m. to a report of a man down in the area of state Highway 1 at Annapolis Road. The deputy found a red Ford truck parked on the side of the road and Latisha McCloud, 35, of Stewarts Point in the driver's seat with the door open, Sgt. Juan Valencia said.

Jason Bean, 47, of Gualala, was intoxicated and passed out on McCloud's lap, Valencia said. When the deputy detained Bean, Bean said he had a firearm in the truck and the deputy found a bolt-action rifle with a large silencer on the barrel under the back seat, according to Valencia.

Bean said he hunted deer with the rife that he used to feed his children, Valencia said.

During a search of McCloud's purse, the deputy allegedly found a business check that did not belong to McCloud. Valencia said the deputy had arrested McCloud in the past for passing stolen checks, theft of credit cards and forgery.

The owner of the check told the deputy the check was stolen from a mailbox in Geyserville during the Kincade Fire evacuation.

Bean was booked in the county jail on $25,000 bail for the alleged possession of a silencer and public intoxication, and McCloud was booked on suspicion of stolen property.
