South Bay City Helps You Trash the Junk Mail

New sign up program for people in San Jose.

San Jose officials are launching a free service to help residents reduce the amount of junk mail they receive.

Catalog Choice is an online mail preference service that allows San Jose residents and businesses to "opt out" of receiving unwanted store catalogs, phone books, coupons and credit solicitations.

San Jose residents recycle more than 74,000 tons of junk mail and mixed paper annually. About 17 trees can be saved for every ton of junk mail not produced, according to city officials.
