South Bay Teacher Arrested on Sex Charge

A Gilroy high school teacher was arrested in San Jose Wednesday on suspicion of committing various sex offenses with a 14-year-old girl who he  met on a social networking Web site, police said.

Alberto Gomez Vicuna Jr., a 32-year-old Morgan Hill man who teaches math at Gilroy High School, was booked into the Santa Clara County  main jail for various sex offenses with a minor, police said.

San Jose police began investigating Vicuna Thursday after being notified he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor in the  city.

The victim is not a Gilroy High School student, according to police.

Vicuna, who tutors students both on and off campus, met the victim on the social networking site Tagged.com, on which Vicuna had more than one  hundred female friends between 13 and 17 years old, police said.

San Jose police Officer Jermaine Thomas said Vicuna identified himself as "Juan G," a 15-year-old San Jose boy on Tagged.com.

Police are investigating whether there are any other victims and  anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Detective Kendra  Nunes or Detective Sgt. Randy Schriefer of the San Jose Police Department's  Child Exploitation Detail at 408-277-4102. To remain anonymous call Crime  Stoppers at 408-947-STOP.
