Mountain Lion Spotted in Los Gatos Tranquilized, Being Released Back Into Wild

NBC Universal, Inc.

A mountain lion that was spotted in Los Gatos was tranquilized Wednesday and will be released back into the wild, wildlife officials said.

The big cat, which was seen resting on a fence in the area of Blossom Hill and Roberts roads, was first spotted on Tuesday.

Resident Tiffany Frye said she actually first spotted the big cat during the windstorm and originally thought it was a rug or pillow that blew into the tree.

That's until she took a closer look.

“And realized that’s a giant wild animal. So I ran back into my house and assessed from windows and found the tail and then it looked over at me and I realized that’s a mountain lion,” said Frye.

On Wednesday morning, she watched it while she drank her morning coffee and was left feeling a mix of fear and wonder.

“At first I was so scared. I have cats and dogs and there’s kids around. But how cool. I kept saying, ‘I’m happy to host you but please never come back,’” she said.

Police and California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials responded to the scene to keep an eye on the animal before it was tranquilized and evaluated at about noon on Wednesday.

Parents of students at nearby Fisher Middle School were told to drive their children to school Wednesday morning.
