Police Arrest San Jose Man in Hit-and-Run Death of 51-Year-Old Woman

NBC Universal, Inc. Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in San Jose.

Police said Tuesday they arrested a 55-year-old man in a fatal hit-and-run involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian in East San Jose late Monday.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Tully and Quimby roads, where Salvador Pantoja of San Jose was driving a 2008 Nissan pickup southbound on Tully when he struck a 51-year-old woman who was walking outside the crosswalk, police said.

Pantoja fled, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Pantoja surrendered at San Jose police headquarters about three hours later, and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol factored into the crash, police said.

The victim's identity was not immediately released pending notification of family.

It marked the 54th fatal collision and the 56th traffic fatality, including 21 pedestrians, in the city this year, police said.
