Bay Area Rapid Transit officials were reporting sparks and smoke above a BART train at the Lake Merritt station Thursday evening.
"A supervisor reported sparks and smoke above a train - safety requires an inspection. We're working to get things moving ASAP!" the official BART Twitter account tweeted around 5:46 p.m. in response to a question from a BART rider who was stuck at the station. Some riders said they were waiting to go see the Warriors play tonight.
According to BART officials, "electricians are inspecting the area and removing debris."
Service is recovering in all directions as of 6:12 p.m.
